What is it?

Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) technologies compare known images against unknown images and can quantify any resemblance. When integrated into the ADF software solutions, they allow first responders and forensic examiners to detect image files that

• Have been altered to escape detection,
• Are part of a series,
• Match a specific profile of images.

CBIR technologies

ADF Solutions has developed two CBIR technologies:

• ADF-ImageMatch is a software library that provides CBIR for approximate image matching, making use of multi-resolution wavelet image decomposition

• ADF-SoftCBIR is a software library for flexible image registration and pattern matching, and uses a combination of photometric and geometric pattern matching techniques.

How are they used today?

One of our most powerful SearchPaks® uses the ADF-ImageMatch technology to automatically identify images from suspect computers that have the most resemblance to indecent images. This SearchPak was created with the collaboration of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement computer forensic team. This SearchPak is available for law enforcement use only.
