Digital Evidence Investigator is built for front-line field investigators and lab examiners who need to do digital forensic investigations on Mac, Linux, or Windows. Combined with Mobile Device Investigator, Digital Evidence Investigator PRO gives you all the best computer forensic capabilities along with iOS and Android mobile forensics in a single affordable forensic tool.

In this short video ADF's Digital Forensic Specialist, Rich Frawley, demonstrates the installation process for DEI and DEI PRO, on an offline computer that does not have Internet access. You can refer to our Technical Specifications for minimum requirements and supported Operating Systems.

During the installation, a prompt appears to install the Microsoft Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (WADK) 10 which is required for preparing a Collection Key and conducting boot scans. To do this, the computer must be connected to the internet. Since many forensic computers are offline and do not have an internet connection we have the following instructions for Offline Installation.

On a computer connected to the Internet go to wadk.adfsolutions.com which will download the correct version of adksetup.exe. Execute adksetup.exe which will continue the installation process. When prompted to specify a location - Choose Download for installation on a separate computer. Approximately 3.9 GB of space will be required. Save the downloaded files on a removable device

  • Choose the Privacy Options desired
  • Accept the License Agreement by clicking on the Accept button

If you are not sure if you have the latest version of the ADF tool you are installing go to www.adfsolutions.com/Downloads and save the latest version to the storage device as well.

  • On the offline computer, navigate to the download on the removable storage device and execute the installer adksetup.exe
  • Accept default installation path and click Next
  • Choose the Privacy Options desired and accept the License Agreement and then select the following features to install - Windows Pre-Installation Environment (Windows PE) and Deployment Tools
  • Click the Install button.

Once complete proceed to online Digital Evidence Investigator installation instructions.

Locate and execute the program installer called DEI-xxxxxx.exe (where xxxxxx represents the version number). The latest installer program can be found on the ADF downloads page.

Selecting the option to install common Android and iOS USB drivers during the installation of Mobile Device Investigator will start the ADF Smartphone Driver Pack installation process.  A progress bar will be displayed showing the progress of the installation. The user may be requested to confirm the installation of some drivers. A prompt will appear when installation is complete, clicking the Close button will end the installation process.
